Leadership in the Public Sector

A short narrative on Group Concept Map

The different aspects of leadership and its application to public service have been extensively discussed and broken down into salient concepts and ideas during the module. The leadership experience allowed us to understand leadership from what was taught to us in our basic training and the leadership gains we have harnessed through the years.  Since public service entails good governance from its leaders, the module emphasized that leaders be guided by ethics, particularly in weighing the different values at hand.   It enlightened us to improve our inner selves through self-mastery while observing leadership from another vantage point (going to the balcony).

As we deal with the different challenges and perplexities, we are called to adapt as leaders as we try to find ways to approach the various wicked problems or even the black swans that would come our way.  It is equally important to understand leadership within the essence of oneself, that is, through the “loob,” which guides our perspectives and actions.  The various cultures would help the leaders understand peculiarities brought by existing norms and traditions and would allow us to handle these differences while practicing leadership and good governance.

In the end, there are various drivers of leadership by which we can all capitalize on, from our emotions, inner selves, participation, and even our ability to adapt.  The leader would be the final judge of his disposition and rests the manifestations brought about by his practice of overall leadership.
