Group Concept Map for Leadership in the Public Sector

Leadership in the Public Sector A short narrative on Group Concept Map                  The different aspects of leadership and its application to public service have been extensively discussed and broken down into salient concepts and ideas during the module. The leadership experience allowed us to understand leadership from what was taught to us in our basic training and the leadership gains we have harnessed through the years.   Since public service entails good governance from its leaders, the module emphasized that leaders be guided by ethics, particularly in weighing the different values at hand.    It enlightened us to improve our inner selves through self-mastery while observing leadership from another vantage point (going to the balcony).     As we deal with the different challenges and perplexities, we are called to adapt as leaders as we try to find ways to approach the various wicked problems o...

Individual Concept Map for Rethinking Leadership in the Public sector

Image
Rethinking Leadership in the Public sector According to Dr. Angelita Y. Gregorio-Medel, Ph.D.,  she additionally commented following key messages of the Concept Map: 1. The need for leadership in public sector leadership and management was differentiated, and yet the overlap and balance between the two ( no to the bipolar view of the 2) 2. Leadership is needed at the top and on the implementation level; the realities of leading and managing in the public sector are intense pressures for achieving results, maintaining accountability, using limited resources efficiently, and responding quickly to changes in direction or priorities 3. Two challenges in government: wicked /adaptive problems and culture change 4. My Ethical Dilemma in the Public Service

Reflection Paper #2   I am a PMaer. I should follow the steps of those who graduated from the Philippine Military Academy. These Alumni were Visionaries. They are the crème of the crop, as I usually hear from my instructors. They are the best leaders the country can in military and government service. These may be all true, but I know that some of these were not, and preparing myself for the inevitable after joining the regular ranks in the military would finally put my leadership and values to the test. I was a young officer then and ready to take on the world of whatever it can throw on me. I knew military tactics, personnel management, and financial management. My values are courage, duty, and honor. It is true that with great power comes great responsibility. I learned that well from the movie “Spider-Man.” I have made it one of the mantras. It can be overwhelming sometimes, but I always make it a point to stop and think and ask myself the two fundamental questions I...

Are You a Leader or a Manager?

Image
Reflection Paper #1              I am a Leader. I can relate to an experience in my life where my leadership was most telling when I was assigned with the Philippine Military Academy. Although I already know how to lead people when it comes to being able to accomplish the mission. I realize that it needs to be practice further and create leaders like me who will be willing to take on the challenge of mentoring others and not just merely coaching. I know the feeling of not having someone to mentor you; that is why in my three years of stay in the Academy as a tactical officer, I tried hard to mentor cadets to become true leaders themselves.          Philippine Military Academy is a premier military leadership institution in the Philippines. It was home to a great leader who had once led our country. Moreover, the Academy was where numerous public servants came from. Presently, the member of the cabinet of Pres...
